Many Free2Play games offer daily missions or bonuses when you log in. League of Legends previously had an IP bonus every 24 hours for the first win of the day. According to a blog by the developers, this concept is to be expanded and improved.
Blog entry by the League of Legends developers about missions
Game designer Evan "Revenancer" Humphreys got in on the newest / dev blog entry of the topic accepted.
Many of us have been playing League of Legends for years and have spent hundreds if not thousands of hours in the game. In order for a game to remain fun over such a period of time and always offer new goals, it is important to release new champions, patches and items. So far, new Mastery / Talent trees regularly ensure that League of Legends maintains that feeling of freshness.
But these are mostly factors that have a long-term effect and do not motivate in the short term. As an alternative, there were always events like Snowdown, Bilgewater: Burning Tides or IP Bonus Weekend etc.
Unfortunately, the possibilities of the old client were very limited and it was very inconvenient to distribute the rewards, for example. If you are wondering why it sometimes took weeks to get an icon from an event: Until now, such rewards had to be distributed manually.
A real mammoth task with up to 120 million players.
New possibilities thanks to the new League of Legends client
With the introduction of the new League of Legends client, Riot finally has the possibility to add events or goals without such effort. With that, the League of Legends missions were born.
As rewards, there should be icons, unique skins and loot for completing the game. Due to the fact that this is all uncharted territory for Riot, no one knows what the system will look like in a few years. But there are some guidelines that developers will follow.
Missions must never encourage trolls
Of course it is important that missions do not lead to negative behavior. Therefore a quest like "Win a game with 300 AD Lux" would be a disaster and spoil the fun for 4 other players.
A positive variant would be "Win 3 games with at least 10 kills / assists."
Or another example, since missions also require skill and should not just be hard work:
Good Mission = Win 3 games as Leona with an A grade or better.
Bad Mission = Play as Leona 100 times.
One thing is therefore certain, it is a tightrope walk between good and bad quests and their effects on the matches.
However, League of Legends should not mutate into a role-playing game in which you only check off quests. The main focus is still on the player versus player aspect and the missions represent additional rewards. Nothing is set in stone, Riot attaches great importance to feedback from the community, so report back to you after the quests appear, what you think is good or bad.
Perhaps there will also be the opportunity to earn unique team summoner icons. For example through a whole series of missions to show your enthusiasm for CLG or TSM.
Our editorial team would have a direct suggestion:
Team SoloMid loyalty mission: DO THE WILDTURTLE !!!! As a shooter, flash 5x in the middle of the opposing team!
But kidding aside, Riot Games has a lot planned with these plans. However, it remains to be seen how the practical implementation will look.
