In an interview with the New York Times, Nintendo America manager Reggie Fils-Aime announced that the Nintendo Switch launch was particularly successful. More consoles were sold in the first two days than any other Nintendo system in the corresponding period. The next best start was the WII.
The latest part of the Zelda series also sets records. As the flagship title for the Switch console, Zelda: Breath of the Wild even beat the previous record holder Super Mario for the N64.
Of course, the market for video games and consoles has continued to grow in recent years, so the numbers cannot be compared to 100%. Nonetheless, this paints an extremely positive picture for Nintendo.
The Nintendo Switch console is characterized above all by the ability to operate it either on the go or at home on the television. They are simply attached to the home television in their docking station. This benefits from the bigger picture. On the go you have a 6.2 inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.
Nintendo Switch with small flaws
Unfortunately, there were also some negative reports in the first few days, buyers reported, among other things, that the display was susceptible to scratches. You should also be very careful when inserting the handheld into the docking station to avoid unsightly scratches. You shouldn't get too violent even in the biggest action, the Nintendo Switch console hardly gives in when bending. And you risk breaking the rails at the edge. Nowadays you are used to a little more flexibility thanks to smartphone displays.
There is a slightly bigger faux pas with the saved games for games. These are saved in the switch console itself and cannot yet be copied. So if you have to replace your console for whatever reason, they will be lost. This decision was made to improve data security and to make the so-called "hacking" of saved games by third-party software and hardware more difficult.
Hopefully Nintendo will take customer feedback to heart and improve these little quirks.
The Nintendo Switch console was released on March 3, 2017.
