Even if E3 was a bit of a disappointment for fans of the Dark Souls / Bloodborne franchises, there was still new information and trailers for Code Vein: Thorns of Judgment. After the gameplay video at the latest, you can't deny the roots of the title. Even if it doesn't say Soulsborns and another studio is behind it, Code Vein delivers new action for fans of the well-known series.

The background story is described below:

“In the not too distant future, the world as we know it perished in a mysterious catastrophe. The skyscrapers soaring into the sky - once signs of prosperity - are just lifeless graves of humanity from yesteryear, pierced by the thorns of judgment. At the epicenter of this destruction is a secret society of revenants called Vein. In this lonely fortress, the few remaining fight for survival. They are helped by superhuman powers that they have exchanged for the loss of memories and a thirst for blood. If you give in to this blood thirst, you risk becoming one of the lost - diabolical ghouls without any humanity. "

The players embody in Code Vein a revenant who has just arrived in Vein. The companions are a novelty of the third-person action role-playing game. You choose this NPC friend in town and start the first job right away: Explore the outside world, regain lost memories and find a way out of this hellish environment.

As is typical for the genre, you can expect a lot of foot soldiers and, above all, challenging bosses. You face them with sword in hand and with magic. Dodging, rolling, starting a counter attack, the combat system makes a very fluid impression. So far there were no shields to be seen in the various trailers, so the fighting style is more reminiscent of the somewhat faster Bloodborne, in contrast to Dark Souls 1, where you often hid behind a large shield.
