In the Announcement of the GWENT Masters Series the developers at CD Projekt Red also asked for feedback from the community. The Masters Series includes the tournaments and seasons that lead to qualification for the official World Championship. A change proposal from user @jesusk and many other fans regarding the placement at the end of a season will be accepted before the start of the GWENT Masters on September 1st.
GWENT - Highest MMR of the season counts from now on
So far, the rank / MMR value that the player has on the key date at the end of a season should determine the qualification for tournaments and the number of crown points.
Since the MMR rating is subject to constant changes from game to game, this is a rather imprecise value. Even the best players in the world experience series of wins or losses. In the end, a random element decides who has the “best last day”. The system would also put players at a disadvantage in the event of illness or Internet problems; those who miss the last few days would then fall back disproportionately.
Conversely, in other games with a similar system, the top-placed players did not play any more matches towards the end of the season, but rather rested on their lead. This of course makes it harder for subsequent players to advance in MMR. Because an MMR system evaluates the victories and defeats against the strength (MMR) of the opponent. So you get fewer points for winning over a significantly weaker opponent than for defeating a higher-ranking player.
From the first master's season with the new rule
The new system will use the highest MMR achieved this season to avoid such problems. And determine the final ranking accordingly. Then even a player who only plays a lot and well for the first 2 weeks can get a high MMR value.
This rule already applies to the first Masters season in September. The official set of rules will be adjusted as soon as possible.
