Like the developers of CD project red announced today the single player campaign from GWENT postponed to 2018. The reason for this is the increased scope of the "Thronebreaker“Expansion and the resulting extended development time.

GWENT - Thronebreaker will be bigger than expected

Thronebreaker is the announced single player campaign for the FreeToPlay card game GWENT, which is based on the mini-game from the world-famous The Witcher Play based. Besides the small holidays like Mahakam Ale Festival or the one that has just ended Soavine event, comes with an even bigger, story-driven campaign. This is about the queen of the second northern kingdoms, Meve. This combat veteran faces an invasion of her lands.

The multiplayer online version of the game is already extremely successful and the first major e-sports tournaments are already running as part of the GWENT Master Series. At the moment GWENT is still in the Beta phase, but this should end in 2018. In preparation for this, multiplayer patches will appear more often in the future and thus improve the balance.

Below is the complete message from the developers:

Dear gamers,

We have decided to make changes to GWENT's development strategy - and I would like to take a moment of your time to share these changes with you.

Thronebreaker, GWENT's story-driven single player campaign, will be postponed to 2018. We have decided to expand the scope of the campaign, so we need more time to work on it. Postponing release dates is something that we approach with the necessary seriousness - and if we think it will give you a better game, then we don't hesitate. I would like to apologize to everyone who wanted to play Thronebreaker over the holidays - but I assure you that we will do our best to ensure that the final game is well worth the longer wait.

End of the beta phase

And since 2018 is the year we want to leave the beta phase with GWENT, we are increasing the pace of the multiplayer updates. We want everyone to have more fun playing, but we also want to welcome new players to an already existing multiplayer ecosystem. So you can expect new content such as maps, challenges, prestige items, but also game patches and balance tweaks in higher frequency.

Kind regards,
Marcin Iwiński,
