One of the most interesting new features of the next Hearthstone Expansion goblins & catacombs are the Treasure hunts. The new and free single player mode lets players go on an expedition into the catacombs and hunt for treasure with a pre-built deck that expands after each victory.
In the latest video the developer shows us Dave Kosak from the Hearthstone team on how this will be done. During the treasure hunt we start with a 10 card deck and with this we have to defeat 8 opponents. These are chosen at random from 48 possible bosses. The further we fight our way forward, the more difficult the opponents become and at some point they cannot be defeated with the starting cards. That's why after each defeated opponent you get a choice of 3 cards of your class. Sometimes you can choose from 3 extremely powerful treasure maps. These are so strong that they will never be allowed in multiplayer mode.
Hearthstone - Mighty treasure maps make hunting easier
Due to the variety of possible opponents and the different maps, every treasure hunt will be something unique. As a special reward, there will be a special card back if you survive a treasure hunt 100% with all nine classes.
Dave Kosak also explains how some of the effects came about, for example the card "Invisibility Cloak: Your servants are permanently stealthy".
So the treasure maps are really extremely powerful, but are also used against the sometimes nasty opponents. The treasure hunt mode comes in December with the Kobolds & Catacombs Extension for Hearthstonewhich of course also offers new cards.
