On the last day of the group stage League of Legends World Championship, it went for the remaining NA team Cloud 9 about everything. The 3-time world champions of SKT T1.
But the first accent of the day was Taiwanese ahq e-sports club Team with a win against SKT T1. The Korean team led by Midlaner Faker started the second week with 3-0 wins, but had a few tight matches and seemed to be having a hard time, but only needed one win from 3 matches to advance.
team Edward Gaming from China, after the 3-0 disgrace in the first week, had a lot planned today, maybe similar to Fnatic but still to create the sensation. For the time being everything went according to plan and EDG could win 2 against Cloud 9 and ahq e-sports drive in.
For the NA fans, the tremors continued, Cloud 9 showed a great performance against SKT in the 4th game of the day, but had to admit defeat. So it went for the North American team on the game against ahq in addition to the fact that they were fortunate enough to be able to decide for themselves and thus progressed as second in the group.
The last game of the day then brought the final score of 5: 1 for SKT T1 in Group A, thanks to a win over EDG.
League of Legends - quarterfinals pairings
This means that all 8 teams have been determined for the quarter-finals and the draw for the matches took place immediately afterwards.
These will take place from October 19-22 and will all be played as a best of 5 series, so the first team with 3 wins will advance. The following matches were drawn:
- Longzhu Gaming (Korea) against Samsung Galaxy (Korea)
- SK Telecom T1 (Korea) against Misfits (EU)
- Royal Never Give Up (China) against Fnatic (EU)
- Team WE (China) against Cloud 9 (N / A)
With this, Cloud 9 has drawn the supposedly easiest lot of the western teams. Team WE played 5: 1 in the group, the other group leaders SKT, RNG and LG showed a much better performance in their games. At the latest in the semifinals, Cloud 9 would then meet one of the dreaded Korean teams.
