In the coming World of Warcraft Extension Battle for Azeroth Blizzard breaks with an ancient tradition that new raid armors will not have set bonuses.

For years there has been a new one with each Raid animal different armor sets, where wearing several matching parts gives various bonuses. Often enough, these bonuses are so powerful that they overshadow all other equipment and upgrades. The disadvantage of the system, of course, was that everyone was running around with the same things. Before the introduction of the Transmogrification, sometimes a raid looked like the attack of the clone warriors.

World of Warcraft - Game Director explains why the change

Announced in an interview with GameInformer Ion Hazzikostas, the Game Director of World of Warcraft:

  • Raid set bonuses are retired for Battle for Azeroth
  • Equipment is thematically strongly adapted to the places in which it is found
  • The team would like to “customize” the equipment using the Azerite system rules.
  • The Tier-Raid-Set System restricted the players too much in their choices
  • Options such as the set bonuses are implemented through the Azerite system.

So we have to get used to it, but it can be positive. Often you were forced to carry X parts of an animal set, even though you already had items with significantly better properties in the bank. The set bonuses, however, were too valuable and the choice was limited forever.

So that will World of Warcraft Battle for Azeroth provide new opportunities and bring a breath of fresh air.
