As announced yesterday, several DOTA 2 teams have not yet received their winnings from the Northern Arena BEAT Invitational.<\/p>\n
The tournament, which took place from 10.-13. November 2016, was carried out by the Canadian promoter Northern Arena.<\/p>\n
As the teams confirmed, Team NP is still entitled to 20,000 $ prize money for their 2nd place, Team Alliance 4,000$ and compLexity Gaming 2,000$. In total, the missing sum is 26,000$.<\/p>\n
Northern Arena CEO Carl-Edwin Michel in a statement:<\/p>\n
\u201cWe paid most of the teams. We are in contact with the rest of the teams and have made payment arrangements with them. One thing is certain, we are obliged to pay all teams. We stand by our word and want to offer even bigger events this year "<\/p>\n
Northern Arena is a new company that wants to develop the eSports scene in Canada and is very dependent on sponsors, especially in the first year.<\/p>\n
In addition, some items in the production company MoonduckTV seem to have not yet been settled. MoonduckTV director Andrew "Zyori" Campbell announced that they are considering legal action.<\/p>\n
Incidents like this are unfortunately nothing new in the industry. In the past there have been incidents and reports from players and teams who received their winnings only after a long delay or sometimes not at all. One of the organizers' leverage is of course always the tacit threat not to invite for the next tournament.
