Without a long preamble: One of the most iconic LucasArts Adventures is back! Full Throttle Remastered was released today on GoG, Steam and Humblebundle.
Originally published in 1995, Full Throttle was based on Maniac Mansion, Zac McKracken and The Secret of Monkey Island, a somewhat dark story that was nevertheless full of wit. The story revolves around the tough biker Ben Throttle, the prominent leader of a cool biker gang drawn into a murderous story full of intrigue.
Full Throttle Remastered - The Background
In the intro, Ben witnesses the murder of Malcom Corley. The owner of the last motorcycle factory in the country is killed by his Vice President Adrian Ripburger. And of course the blame should be blamed on Ben and his gang.
As if that weren't bad enough, Ripburger wants to convert the factory to the production of minivans. This dystopian doomsday scenario (a world without motorbikes clearly falls into this category) has to stand in the way of Ben, prove his innocence and get his gears back.
The revised version of Full Throttle still offers the same ingenious humor, but with high-resolution 3D graphics and a revamped soundtrack.
The player can switch between classic and modern mode at any time. You can also combine sound, graphics and surface as you wish.
A gallery offers concept drawings as well as an audio track with audio comments from the developers.
In cooperation with Double Fine Production, Full Throttle is already the 3rd LucasArts game that Tim Schafer released in a remastered version. Grim Fandango Remastered and Day of the Tentacle Remastered have already been released and were greeted euphorically by the fans. The wave of nostalgia does not only affect the older gamer semesters, but also many new fans find their way into the old school adventures, which founded the whole genre.
In a video interview Tim Schafer and his colleagues from Gamespot talk for a good 45 minutes about the background and the creation of the remastered version. Especially the insight into the work of revising graphics and sound is very interesting.
Full Throttle Remastered is available today for PC on Steam, GoG.com and in the HumbleBundle Story.
