The 5 days of the main round, in which each team had to compete twice against each other, are over and four of the six League of Legends teams have qualified for the finals. As we reported each team had it in their own hands to ensure their progress. The nerves of the players and fans were accordingly bare.

Mid Season Invitational - the decisive 5th matchday

But let's start with the 2 teams that made it through without any problems. SKT T1 clearly won the opening game against Team G2 Esports, but lost against Team WE. With that, SKT finished the main round as first in the table with 8 wins and 2 losses.

Team WE won both matches of the day against Gigabyte Marines and of course SKT. The team from China secured 2nd place with 7 wins and 3 defeats.

It got more exciting with the fight for the last two places for the final round. The 4 teams Gigabyte Marines, Flash Wolves, G2 Esports and Team SoloMid shared 3rd place and so everything was open.

Team SoloMid started the day with a win against the Flash Wolves and this match already suggested that the nerves of everyone involved were not the best. The Flash Wolves could not reach an inhibitor despite 2 stolen barons. After a marathon match of 53 minutes, Team SoloMid had just lost Baron but secured Elder Dragon as midlaner Bjergsen to Ahri and Toplaner Hauntzer on Shen who initiated the decisive team fight. Here is the video that is well worth seeing.

TSM had the best chances of qualifying for the finals, after all, they had already defeated G2 Esports once. But things turned out differently.

Team SoloMid was actually the entire match against G2 gold in front, sometimes up to 8,000 gold difference. But could not implement their advantage decisively, as so often the decision was made after Baron Nashor. Thanks to the buff and an excellent Caitlynn played by Zven, TSM couldn't hold out and their nexus fell.

G2 had secured 3rd place, while Flash Wolves and Team SoloMid had to fight for 4th place in a tiebreaker game.

The end of the American League of Legends hopes

The North American fans had hopes at the beginning, after all, TSM had beaten the Flash Wolves in the first match of the day, they were destroyed relatively quickly. 38 minutes, 16 to 3 kills and a gold difference of 72k to 56k later, the Flash Wolves had played their way into the finals. The tradition of disappointing the American teams in an international comparison unfortunately continued seamlessly.

Team SoloMids problems seem to go deeper than just a player who may be weak. ADC Wildturtle, interpreted as a scapegoat by the community at every opportunity, was not the main problem this time around. After a good season, Jungler Svenskeren showed an extreme inconsistency at this tournament. If you look at all the lost Barons and Drakes, TSM fans could get theirs General TheOddOne wish back. Coach Parth also has to put up with some criticism, Team SoloMid's selection of champions showed a lot of weaknesses.

Riot Phreak formulated this very clearly and we quote this without comment:

In any case, this will end the Mid Season Invitational for Team SoloMid while G2 Esports progresses. The final round looks like this:

Friday 19th May   Team SKT T1 versus Flash Wolves

Saturday 20th May   Team WE against G2 Esports

These matches are played as the best of 5 and promise a lot of high-class League of Legends action.
