Heroes of the Storm developer Blizzard has announced the introduction of a battlefield rotation.
The unique battlefields are one of the main features that set Heroes of the Storm apart from other MOBAs. Nonetheless, there can be too much of a good thing as the number of cards has grown to 13 since its release.
This makes it difficult for newer players to adjust to the cards and to keep the individual timings etc. in mind. The first plans on this topic have been around for a long time, since the number of available battlefields had doubled, adjustments were made to the map pool. The developers made sure that the players also had the chance to play the latest cards and didn't have to wait forever.
In order to ensure fresh and varied battles in the long term without overwhelming the players, Blizzard implemented the battlefield rotations.
Heroes of the Storm the new rotations
The available battlefields in game modes will be reduced from 13 to 9. The community feedback was taken into account that 6 options are not enough.
- In the Ranked Seasons, the meta will adapt and change with the battlefield rotation.
- Blizzard starts with 3 rotations with 9 battlefields each per season. These numbers are adjusted if it turns out that they do not have the desired effect or the effect is reduced by too many new cards.
- At the same time, the system will be updated to accustom new players to cards. The flood of information for 10+ different cards can easily be overwhelming. That's why new players will always play their first game in the "Cursed Valley". Then she'll play battlefields from a smaller selection of the current rotation. Over time, this selection will be expanded to include the full 9 cards.
The development team will choose a balanced selection of cards for each rotation, with the card mechanics alternating accordingly.
The first rotation will include the following cards and will be active with the patch this week:
- Cursed valley
- Temple of Heaven
- Braxis terminus
- Hanamura
- Battlefield of Eternity
- Warhead Manufactory
- Ghost mines
- Burial chamber of the spider queen
- Hell shrines
