GWENT - Start of Public Beta and Trailer

GWENT: The Witcher Card Game

To celebrate the beginning of the public beta from GWENT: The Witcher Card Game, there were 2 brand new videos. The cinematic trailer showing Geralt playing cards and not being interrupted by anything. As well as a longer gameplay video that explains the game itself.

GWENT: The Witcher Card Game

Many may know GWENT as a mini game from the world famous The Witcher games. Now it's coming out as a complete, standalone game and is currently in beta testing. GWENT is a representative of collectible card game Genre, i.e. a trading card game such as Magic, The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh or the famous Hearthstone from Blizzard.

The refreshing thing about GWENT is the new tactical approach. Instead of a single duel, you always play 3 rounds. You don't draw a card every turn as in the known card games, but have to make do with the starting hand and only get two or one card after each round. There is also no mana, the cards are the only resource you have to manage. In theory, you can play all cards in the first round of your duel and thus decide this round for you. Since with 3 rounds you have to win 2 for the final victory, this will backfire. The opponent will still have so many cards compared to you that he easily wins the last two rounds and thus the entire duel.

So it is a matter of estimating, tacting and planning in which round you use your cards most sensibly. The element of chance in GWENT is far less than Hearthstone, for example. Blizzard's card game is known for having a huge element of luck, and many new cards that have random effects add to that. If you don't like this, you are in better hands with GWENT.

Open beta for GWENT

Those who haven't had the luck to get into the closed beta can breathe a sigh of relief today. The open beta phase begins. In a live stream on Twitch this evening, the developers will once again answer all questions and provide the necessary information.

The stream starts today on May 24th at 9:00 p.m. CEST on CD Projekt Red's official Twitch Channel, the developers of GWENT.

The cinematic trailer can be found at the beginning of the article, the gameplay video on the Developer YouTube Channel.
