It's finally that time again, strap on your gamepads and polish your consoles, today is the annual Speedrun Marathon Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) Come on. The most popular and best speed runners in the world gather and show their skills, hopefully a lot of money will be raised for a good cause.
The winter version of the marathon - Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ), collected for the "Prevent Cancer Foundation" at the beginning of the year.
The donations from Summer Games Done Quick go to "Doctors Without Borders". In 2016, nearly $ 1.3 million was donated by fans around the world to support the organization.
Summer Games Done Quick 2017 for the benefit of Doctors Without Borders
For a whole week from July 2nd to July 9th, the speed runners race through popular games and set speed records. All the fun is broadcast on Twitch Live and, thanks to many re-streams, commented on in the different national languages. In addition to the good cause, the family environment also plays a major role, with most speed runs 3-4 people sit on the couch and comment on the current game with mostly unbelievable expertise. Stories are told about the development of the games, their bugs, the speedrunners' tricks and, in general, lots of jokes are made.
In order to additionally stimulate the willingness to donate, there are a lot of prizes, like every year, which are raffled among the donors. There are also challenges where you can donate for extra levels or, for example, to determine the names of the main characters. An example:
