Normally a game of Magic the Gathering ends with a handshake and a friendly "Next time I'll win!" In St. Cloud, USA, one of the two participants grabbed a hammer and knife and seriously injured his opponent.

The dispute broke out over a game of Magic the Gathering, 31 year old Elijia Dale Creech first hit his opponent with a rubber mallet and then stabbed him seven times with a knife. Creech himself had dialed 911 and reported to the police “that he stabbed a man in his apartment and that he was dying”. The injured man was taken to hospital where his serious injuries were treated. However, his life should no longer be in danger.

The investigators on site found that the dispute developed during a Magic Match, but have not yet been able to determine the exact reason for the dispute. Since the attacker had already been convicted of possession of explosives, the police used a search warrant to examine his home. Fortunately, however, no explosives were found there. Creech is now on remand and is likely to face aggravated assault charges. Under American law, he faces up to 25 years in prison.
