"Same procedure as every year" The League of Legends Unfortunately for the North American fans, the world championship follows the feared pattern. Team SoloMid as one of the most popular and well-known western teams, western hope is crowned and bitterly disappointed.
Also this year a tragedy unfolded for NA teams in week 2 of the group stage. Last year 0:10 in the second week, today Team SoloMid was able to win at least the first NA victory with a win over EU Team Misfit and thus retain the chance of a tie-breaker for 2nd group place.
Team WE from China secured first place in the group with 5: 1 during the Flash Wolves Although they were able to win their first win against TSM, they only corrected the result. The Flash Wolves finished the group with 1: 5 as the last in Group D. This one win against TSM made it a tie-breaker between Misfits and TSM came.
League of Legends - The NA Curse hits TSM again
Once again on this day (and this World Cup) fans and analysts were amazed at TSM's Pick & Ban phase. Midlaner Bjergsen was picked again on Ryze, while e.g. Syndra, one of his top champions, remained open. For the top lane and hauntzer, the team then decided on Jayce against the Cho'Gath by Misfits. For ADC Doublelift was Kog'maw chosen while among others Tristanawith which he had great successes this World Cup) remained open.
Somehow everything went differently in the game than one would expect. Instead of the TSM Jungler Svenskeren the focus was on the top lane to support the Hypercarry Jayce. Instead you saw Misfits Jungler Maxlore with repeated ganks top. Even if Hauntzer managed to escape most of the ganks, he lost massive experience and gold and was no longer relevant for the rest of the game. Misfits, on the other hand, was a top planner Alphari with Cho'gath an unstoppable force of nature.
After only 31 minutes the last hope for Na fans was over and with that day Misfits finished the game as the winner. They qualified for the quarter-finals as second in the group. For TSM it remains a bitter defeat (like every year), despite the individually very good players like Bjergsen, Doublelift or Hauntzer, it is simply not enough in an international comparison. Jungler Svenskeren could just as well have played Evelynn, he was so invisible throughout the tournament.
How and what consequences will be drawn from this renewed failure remains to be seen.
The 8th and last day of the group stage brings the decision in group A tomorrow Cloud 9, one last chance to make a quarter-finals for NA.
