The Overwatch Developers were able to announce a real milestone today, the Team Shooter recorded 35 million players.
Despite partially not outstanding future visions for the Esports division from Overwatch, the game sells itself flawlessly. Which once again shows that a good game is more important than any esports plans and investments.
What a bunch of misfits and freaks we got here — we love it!
Thanks for teaming up with us, heroes. ???? pic.twitter.com/aBENKWS17f

What is Overwatch?
Blizzard's multiplayer first-person shooter was released in May 2016 and is available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. 2 teams with 6 players each compete against each other on different maps. There are different goals to achieve in order to achieve victory, including Capture the flag or escort missions. Overwatch offers extremely fast and varied action, the other players can change their selected characters during the match. This creates a certain dynamic between the teams to continuously counter the selection of opponents.
Blizzard has regular events like this right now Halloween terror event in which there are special exclusive skins and other cosmetics for the characters to earn. A particularly large project is that Overwatch Esports League, in which 12 teams are supposed to compete against each other every week. In the style of the big American sports leagues like basketball or football, each team represents its hometown and in the long term there should be esport stadiums in each of these cities. Blizzard started with the large Blizzard Arena in Los Angelos.
It remains to be seen whether the investment of 20 million US dollars is worthwhile for the individual teams. With 35 million players there are at least theoretically enough spectators.
