Developer Studio Blizzard goes back to its roots and announces a remastered version of Starcraft.

At today's “1> Starcraft” event in Korea, the rumors were finally confirmed publicly, Starcraft is getting an HD upgrade. The gameplay is retained 1: 1, while graphics, soundtrack and intro sequences are improved and brought up to date. The friends and matchmaking system will also be updated.

The beginnings of the epic story of Terran, Zerg and Protoss and the well-known heroes like Raynor & Kerrigan, the Overmind and Tassadar, will be presented to us by Blizzard in new comic cutscenes with modern graphics.

Starcraft and the extension Brood War are the cornerstones of modern eSports. In the times of Warcraft 2, Dune, and Command & Conquer, the Real Time Strategy hit Starcraft started a movement that continues to this day. In Korea, the professional players' matches filled entire stadiums with 10,000 live spectators and countless more in front of the television.

Brood War is still played professionally today, 19 years after its publication, and the tournaments in Korea enjoy unbroken popularity. Lots Brood War Legends like Jaedong are now back to their roots in after an interlude in Starcraft 2 Brood War returned.

Because of this, it has long been expected that the Blizzard developers will renew their mega success and donate a contemporary look.

  • Blizzard friends system and matchmaking
  • Classic Starcraft feel

In an interview with the Fan Site TeamLiquid there were other details.

For example, the code is so closely related to the original that even special features such as the reaction of Dragoons and Goliaths to movement commands are retained. The same “stacking” of Mutalisks will still be possible. These are the details that make Starcraft: Brood War so charming, even if they weren't intended interactions in the original game.

The fact that replays of version 1.16 will work in the remastered version shows how much effort the developers are trying to stay as close to the original as possible.
