The team behind Ori and the Will of the Wisps presented a new feature at Gamescom, the Speedrun mode.
Speedrun mode
These are small races in which the players have to cover a given route as quickly as possible. As a special gag you can use the Ghosts of other players see trying the same route. So you might find better ways to overcome dangerous situations as quickly as possible. You also get the times and you can race against friends for the best time.
The mini-scenarios for the races are based on the worlds in the game and there should be at least one race with the corresponding style in each larger area. Of course, attention is also paid to the upgrades achieved and no race will require skills that will only be found later. The inspiration for the mode came after the team experienced the enthusiasm of the speed runners at events like Awesome Games Done Quick or SGDQ.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps - Improved Combat
There was also confirmation that the Combat and Skills System will be much more variable than in the first part. Ori and the Will of the Wisps will give the player the opportunity to improve in various areas. Those who need help during fights increase their fighting skills, while those who have problems catching particularly accurate jumps can improve their locomotion, etc.
The fight should be much better than in the predecessor Ori and the Blind Forest. There, the developers concentrated on creating the best possible platformer / platforming game. They have undoubtedly succeeded and so in the second part they put emphasis on improving the somewhat neglected areas such as the fighting.
There is no exact release date yet, so far only 2019 is known.
