Warframe makers are working on F2P Lord of the Rings MMO

The makers of the successful FreeToPlay action shooter Warframe announced today that they have a license for the Lord of the rings Universe acquired. The announcement speaks of a collaboration between Athlon Games and the Middle-Earth Enterprises.

Middle-Earth Enterprises owns the complete rights for the marketing of JRRTolkiens greatest literary works: The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. Be it Peter Jackson for his films or the MMO The Lord of the Rings Online from Daybreak, all of them need the appropriate license.

New studio of the mother company of the Warframe developers

Athlon Games is a developer studio founded in May 2018, which has not yet had any publications to book, but through the common parent company Leyou is associated with the Warframe makers Digital Extremes. Warframes has a reputation for being a very fair F2P model in the FreeToPlay community and this gives hope for the upcoming Lord of the Rings game.

"Athlon Games combines its expertise in free-to-play console and PC games with Western development to create AAA cooperative console and PC experiences that gamers will want to play for many years," writes Leyou chairman Xu Yiran.

“With our technical know-how and expertise in free-to-play game development and publishing, which has seen success with the Group's other game titles such as Warframe, the Board believes that the development and publishing of this new title based on The Lord of the Rings will help further the Group's goal of creating top quality console and PC games that have global appeal and expand the Group's footprint in the West. ”

Unfortunately there is no concrete information about the planned game itself, but one can assume that it will take a few years until something concrete comes out of this cooperation. So enough time to do that again Lord of the rings Dig up the book and browse in peace.
