After taking a look at the new elementals, here are details of the new Hearthstone quests that will be implemented with the Journey to Un'Goro expansion.

As one of the Blizzard game designers Peter Whalen explained, the idea for quest cards came about a long time ago. The team was working on the expansion, The Whispers of the Old Gods. At that time, quest cards were designed as a kind of secret, the conditions of which could only be met on your own turn.

When it came to the "Journey to Un'Goro", the idea seemed to fit like a fist, something stunning that would make the trip unforgettable. Quests should be Legendary Cards that offer really powerful rewards.

Hearthstone - quest cards, the first concepts

In the first concept phase, some quest cards were designed and then discarded. For example, the first variant of the priest quest was very frustrating for the opponent. Virtually out of nowhere, the opponent was suddenly able to play a very powerful card. Therefore, quest cards have been changed so that they have to be played so that both players can see the progress.

Also changed were the first plans that quests would be played automatically from the deck and therefore would not take up any space in the starting hand. This turned out to be too powerful, quests will always be in the starting hand for that. The developers prevent a quest from being drawn towards the end of the game. Or at a time when many of the cards that would be needed to complete the quest have already been played.

While some of the quests are straight forward like "Unite the Murlocs - Quest: Call 10 Murlocs Reward: Mega fin“, Others are a bit more complex.

Using the example of the villain quest, Peter Whalen explains the principle.

Hearthstone

As we all know, you can only put a maximum of 2 cards with the same name in a deck. So villains have to trick a bit, cards like "Shadow step"Or"Thistle tea", But also the" old ""Young master brewer“Could be honored again. In addition, there is the new map in Reise von Un'Goro "Clone capsule : Draws a card. Get a copy of it in hand ”.

And what does the villain get for all the effort?

As a reward, "Crystal core: For the rest of the game your servants have the values 5/5 "

So if you currently have several 1/1 mini servants on the game board, you can turn them into "Crystal core "  a fearsome army that can win the game right away.

So you can look forward to many new deck ideas that revolve around the quest cards.

Hearthstone's Journey to Un'Goro is due out in April.
