The ancestor of the trading card game is back with the new one Magic: The Gathering Arena Game launches Wizards of the Coast in the online FreeToPlay market. There have been plans for an online version of the popular card game that created the entire scene in the first place.
The previous online version MTGO - Magic the Gathering Online also offered the complex gameplay in an online program, but on the one hand was not FreeToPlay and suffered from cumbersome gameplay. Since it is possible in Magic the Gathering to play so-called "instant" spells even during the opponent's turn, the program had to wait after each action whether the opponent wanted to play an interruption spell, for example. So the flow of the game suffered a bit from the complexity. Nevertheless, Magic Online offers a special experience in the MTG universe due to the immense variety of cards and will continue to receive new expansions.
Magic: the Gathering Arena - new competition for Hearthstone?
In MTG Arena the whole thing will run much more smoothly and enable fast games that still offer the full tactical variety of Magic: The Gathering.
When it is released, Arena will contain all of the standard maps, to which about 1,000 will be added each year. The goal of the developer is MTG: Arena to make it one of the top games on Twitch that offers a lot of excitement and fun for players and viewers alike.
With the newly developed game engine "Games Rules Engine (GRE)“, Which should also master all future maps and game mechanics, the developers are planning for the long term.
These are big goals that will require a lot of work and testing, so interested players can already be on the official MTG Arena website sign up for the closed beta. The beta will initially only be available in English and maps of the new ones Ixalan Make extension available. The Ixalan Expansion for the map version of Magic: The Gathering will be released on September 29th.
