Developer Studio Monolith today officially announced the release of Middle-earth: Shadow of War. The team also showed a first trailer on YouTube.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War is the sequel to Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. This part was awarded numerous prizes, including the Game Developers Choice Award Game of the Year in 2015,
The press release tells us some details:
In the new part, the player wears a new ring of power and must face some of the deadliest enemies that Middle-earth has to offer. Including Sauron and his well-known ringwraiths the Nazgul.
The world of the role-playing game is enlivened by the expansion of the likewise award-winning Nemesis system from Part 1. The player thus creates his own world. In short, decisions and actions show consequences that offer a unique experience for every player. The story takes place between the events known from the books "The Hobbit" and the first part "The Lord of the Rings: The Companions".
Middle-earth: Shadow of War developer statement
Monolith Production VP Michael de Plater said the following: “As lifelong fans of Middle-earth we are very grateful for the privilege of bringing this most incredible and wonderful fantasy world ever created to life for a new generation. We can't wait to experience the amazing stories players will create and share in Middle-earth: Shadow of War. Shadow of War's improved nemesis system offers a new feature called followers. These are characters who will add completely new stories of loyalty, betrayal and vengeance to the game. "
The nemesis system of the first part allowed the opponents to remember every encounter with the player and to act accordingly. Thus, it also gave the opponents different personalities and behaviors.
It will be released on August 22, 2017 for Xbox One, Windows 10, PS4 and PC.
