The time until the beta of the Path of Exile Extension "The Fall of Oriath“Is getting shorter and shorter and the developers are showing more and more of the new and revised features.

As one of the Ui elements, the 100% is always visible and continuously reporting a lot of information to the player, the mini-map functionality is of great importance.

The way in which information about the surrounding area is presented must be simple and clear and at the same time complex enough to show all relevant information.

When revising the mini map, the development team had 3 main goals:

• Clearly depict all obstacles in the area.
• Improve the process of exploring the map and make it easier for you to fully explore the area.
• The aesthetic appearance of the card should be improved.

Areas like the docks have always been difficult to navigate. Many small obstacles that made progress more difficult could not be shown on the MiniMap due to technical restrictions. To improve this, the team added a "walkability layer". This shows exactly which terrain is accessible or not.

This additional level can be switched on and off depending on your preference.

An exploration line was also built in that shows unexplored terrain that can be walked on. When exploring the map, your character "pushes" this line until it disappears, indicating that the map has been completely revealed.

In the video at the beginning of the article, the developers show a preview of the new mini-map. Since this is a beta, the lighting of some door openings is not yet correct.

All of these improvements are not intended to have or affect the performance of the Path of Exile Client.

In any case, this looks like a very useful improvement that should make the 100% exploration much easier later on on winding maps.
