System Shock - a name that many people are sure to associate with SHODAN is getting a remake. This has been known for a long time and the Kickstarter campaign has over 21,000 backers who finance the Shock Remake system with $ 1.3 million.

Today developer Looking Glas Technology released an early alpha video on Youtube to demonstrate the migration to Unreal Engine 4. The trailer lets SHODAN (the crazy AI who has to be fought in the course of the game) have their say and with that alone gives you goose bumps.
You can also see some fights that show the use and interaction with the environment. At one point the protagonist opens a gas bottle with a targeted shot and freezes the cyborgs standing around. Then he can calmly transform them into fragments of ice with the melee weapon, risk-free and saving ammunition.

Of course, this is an alpha video from an extremely early stage of development so that everything shown can still be changed. Nonetheless, the surroundings and the targeted lighting effects make a very good impression. The video already gives a scary feeling reminiscent of an alien when the player runs through the corridors or sneaks up on a cyborg.

The System Shock Remake Team

The developer team consists of veterans of the game industry who have already worked on cult games such as Fallout: Las Vegas, Mass Effect or Bioshock. In addition, there is a close collaboration with the programmers of the original from 1994. This ensures that the remake comes close to the original and gives the same feeling. At the same time, the understanding of what the original team would have done differently comes into play. Or would do it differently in the meantime in order to create the best possible game.
