The developers nowadays with hacker attacks in the form of DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) have to fight is unfortunately almost the order of the day. After CD Projekt Red's GWENT server suffered from such an attack the last few days. The developers announced another bad news on Twitter today. An unknown person tries to blackmail CD Projekt Red with stolen development documents for their new Cyberpunk 2077 game.
Cyberpunk 2077 - stolen documents are said to be out of date
According to the blackmailers, they are in possession of several documents from an early development stage of the cyberpunk game.
Should the developers not comply with the demand for a cash payment, the blackmailers threaten to publish the documents. In the statement, Projekt Red confirms that they will not comply with the request. The relevant authorities have been called in and are investigating unknown persons.
The developers also announce that the documents in question come from a very, very early stage of development of the game and are therefore out of date. Cyberpunk 2077 has meanwhile been further developed and the documents are no longer representative of the current game.
Ask the fans to ignore the information if it is published in order to avoid any chance of spoiler, however remote. Updated information will be available from the developers as Cyberpunk 2077 approaches release.
Below is the official statement from the Polish developers of CD Projekt Red, who became world famous with games like The Witcher 1-3 and GWENT. They also operate the GoG platform, which sells games like Steam, but mostly DRM-free.
