Last weekend, Square Enix released the trailer for the first expansion for Final Fantasy XV at the PAX show.
Final Fantasy XV - Episode Gladiolus enables us to control Gladiolus directly for the first time. In the main game, Gladiolus is one of the 3 companions of Prince Noctis who accompany him on the journey to his future bride.
In contrast to Noctis, you notice clear differences in fighting style, Gladiolus is clearly a tough fighter. With small, quick attacks you fill your anger gauge in order to start some devastating special actions. Producer Sawatari explained that it was based on wrestling moves and thus opponents can be lifted and smashed onto the floor. Gladiolus is said to be able to tear even whole boulders out of the area and use them as massive weapons.
Final Fantasy XV - Episode Gladiolus, The Backgrounds
Many will remember a flashback that happened early in Final Fantasy XV. It shows how the king's shield lost out in the fight against Ravus. This defeat plunges Gladiolus into a serious crisis and he leaves the troops to face his fear.
With the thought "I am not strong enough, I am not good enough", he sets off to a ruin that was discovered 30 years ago. It was there that earlier guardians of the king faced the challenge of sword master Gilgamesh. Gladiolus decides he has to go through the same thing to find the strength he needs.
The expansion breaks something with the basic idea of the 4-man troop that moves through the world together. Sawatari explains that it was not an easy decision, but the absence is relatively short. Likewise, Gladiolus is coming back stronger and the split also provides a chance for all characters to reflect who they are and what they need to do.
Gladiolus episode is said to be around 1.5 to 2 hours long and will likely decide in June. Let's keep our fingers crossed that there is no further delay
You can find the trailer on the official Square Enix YouTube Channel at the beginning of the article.
