Mass Effect: Andromeda - No day 1 fix for animations

Mass Effect: Andromeda

Anyone who was looking forward to Mass Effect: Andromeda and read the first reviews and opinions in the last few days has surely noticed the complaints about the animations. For example, there are NPCs who actually come strolling around, but suddenly pull their knees up to their chins while walking a few meters away. Or the main character who grins broadly while talking about the death of her father, pulling her lips. It's pretty surreal at times and you feel like you're playing a 10 year old game when the technology just wasn't advanced.

Today, lead designer Ian Frazier gave the following answer to a related Twitter question:

In other words, this ship has departed. There won't be a day 1 patch with animation improvements. The contents of later updates are still being discussed.

Mass Effect: Andromeda gets very mixed reviews

As a result, the reviews for Mass Effect: Andromeda are very mixed and mostly negative. The press policy of developer Bioware is not entirely innocent of this. The review pages had their copy of Andromeda for a long time, but were only allowed to report up to a certain point. Only the first 5 hours of playing time were allowed to be published and used as a source for the preliminary reports. This is roughly up to the point where the main character gets their spaceship.

As a result, the possibilities are of course very limited, what is a measly empty ship at the beginning may become a real home for you and your crew 20 hours later, which nobody would want to miss anymore. Likewise, the quests and events of the first planet don't seem to necessarily set off fireworks. But that says little about the overall quality of the game. In RPGs the size of Mass Effects, this is often only a fraction of the experience. Paul Tassi from Forbes Magazine describes all of this very neutrally.

Accordingly, it is probably best to wait a few more days to see what the final ratings are or to see for yourself.

Mass Effect: Andromeda will be released in Europe on March 23rd and will be available for PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
