Although the tactical shooter is still in the Early Access phase, the game is reaching sales figures that some other titles don't even make after release.
The story behind PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS
The developer known as PLAYERUNKNOWN created the Battle Royal Mod for Arma 2 & 3 and achieved fame in the scene. Whole stand-alone games like H1Z1 trace their roots back to its mod. Together with the development studio Bluehole, he worked on the creation of PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS, a pure Battle Royal game.
In a Battle Royal 64-128 players are dropped on an island and have to fight for their survival. With equipment and weapons all over the place, you can eliminate your opponents and become the winner. In order to mix up the whole thing, the available player area is limited by a circle and made smaller and smaller. Endless "camping" is thus prevented and provides a thrill, especially in the final phase. Every sprint from cover to cover to stay in a circle becomes an exciting experience.
Furthermore, boxes full of special weapons and equipment are randomly dropped from aircraft and marked with smoke signals. This of course leads to exciting battles over the valuable items.
Server performance is constantly being improved
The extreme popularity of the game is certainly due to the constant communication between the developers. Every day there are new updates about patches and which problems are currently being identified and fixed. For example, the weekly patch has significantly improved server performance.
