A long desired feature for PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS was the map selection. Since the appearance of the desert map Miramar and at the latest with the announcement of more, this feature slipped up in the priority list.

The fact that the developers took their time with this is not only due to problems in the technical implementation. As the PUBG team stated on a blog today that there were other concerns as well.

Would a map selection lead to increased waiting times for the individual servers and game modes?

An important point for the team, considering the number of different regions and servers, such a choice could lead to significantly longer registration and waiting times for individual games. So the implementation of the card selection had to take into account such problems.

The players in the individual regions have significantly different preferences in terms of maps and game modes, can one map selection work for everyone?

Feedback on this issue was gathered from every region of the world and resulted in the first version being discarded. So the team had to start again from 0 and come up with another version.

There is also a screenshot of what the map selection looks like at the moment:

The developers emphasize that further changes may occur if there are conditions in terms of Game allocation and waiting times change for the worse.

So far, the features are very simple:

  • Simply click on the cards you want to play.
  • Do not click on the cards that you want to avoid or click away from the selection.
  • If the player has selected more than one card, the game will choose one at random.

The complete blog of the PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS team can be found on the Steam homepage. When the new features will be released is not yet known.
