Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - Remake?

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

For a few days now, very interesting hints of a possible revival of the classic Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic have been circulating. Games journalist Liam Robertson recently talked about the closet on his blog.

Bioware Austin is said to be working on the remake for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

It says that Bioware Austin is working almost exclusively on the new project and will continue to do so for a long time. According to its sources, it is a remake / revival of Knights of the Old Republic. In the meantime it should go beyond a pure remake and it is not 100% clear in which direction it is going.

One of the reasons for a remake is certainly the possible adaptation of the story to the official timeline of the Star Wars universe. Since Disney Studios took over the Star Wars franchise, the story of KOTOR has been part of the "expanded universe" and thus no longer 100% "canon".

"Canon" is the definition of the 100% original story. In today's world, with countless spin-offs appearing for every movie / game / book, not everything is automatically part of the main story.

Over the years, hundreds of books and stories have appeared on Star Wars in particular, some of which describe events that go far beyond anything that George Lucas ever established. As a result, some stories have meanwhile been refuted, for example by new films, or events have been presented differently.

In these cases, fans often talk endlessly about which version is considered "true" for the Star Wars universe. Such discussions only end when the developers / story writers define a version as "canon".

Since Knights of the Old Republic was released in 2003 and since then a lot has happened in terms of Star Wars, an adaptation would make sense. Novelist Drew Karpyshyn, who wrote the storyline for Knights of the Old Republic, has long hinted that he's back at Bioware and working on a still-secret project. That would go well with it and would almost guarantee a good story. After all, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is still highly praised for its story and the adventures around the individual characters.
